Hello bloggin’ world! I’m not gonna lie, I’m pretty stoked about this little blog. So stoked, in fact, that I lost sleep last night because I was unreasonably excited to write this first post, unphased by the depressing default tagline “Just another WordPress.com weblog” that appeared atop my freshly selected template. Seriously, WordPress, as if I didn’t already feel unoriginal.
I’ve been a food blog creeper for quite some time now. You know the type: a faithful follower (unbeknownst to the blogger) who checks for updates several times a week but never leaves comments. I’ve entertained the thought of starting my own blog for quite some time, but didn’t think I had it in me to be one of those people who determinedly whips out a camera at a restaurant and proceeds to capture several different angles of her food on film, much to the irritation and dismay of nearby diners. That, and also I couldn’t bear the thought of anything standing in between me and that first bite…
Which brings me to my very first blog post…and the reason why I only have one picture of a fabulous meal from The Lazy Ox Canteen. This recently-opened restaurant is located on a slightly desolate block near the Little Tokyo/Arts District in Downtown Los Angeles. Despite what it may look like, the meal included far more than a head of lettuce. But alas, I’m just getting into the swing of things, so please excuse the fact that I neglected to photograph the tapas-style carmelized lamb belly with mint labne AND the brick roasted mussels with basil, white wine, house made sriracha (whaaaa?!) and french feta. Drool. I should also probably tell you about the chocolate pate with salted caramel and dulce de leche that was consumed for dessert – an endeavor that took a mere 47 seconds to complete. P.S. Chocolate pate should be a staple in everyone’s diet. Jus’ sayin’.
Although one might find my “foodie fail” inexcusable, I urge you to hang tight. Things can only get better. Otherwise, I fear this really might become “Just another WordPress.com weblog”. And we can’t have that.
Dude! Your blog is so much fun! With my professional development this week I haven’t had much time to unwind – this is the first night that I’ve been able to sit, pay bills, watch tv, “think” about cooking dinner (we’ll see how far I get) and your blog is delightful! Can’t wait until you come up here this next weekend so we can eat and eat and eat and eat. You’ll definitely have to write about that ice cream with sea salt and caramel at Picco. I’m so proud of you! This is great!
Love you.
Hi Katharine,
Great meeting you, too! You are off to a great start in your first couple of weeks of blogging – you’re too modest! Your pictures look SO yumma. A little restaurant hint if you’re into the salty/sweet. Have you heard of Sweet Rose Creamery? It’s in Brentwood Country Mart and is run by the good people from Huckleberry and Rustic Canyon. They make their own (to die for) ice creams, including a salted caramel that is out of this world! Seriously, they sprinkle a little Fleur de Sel ON TOP before they give it to you. It’s a must!
I’ll be keeping an eye on your site, for sure!
Jennifer
Ooo, thanks for the tip, Jennifer! I recently dined at Huckleberry and LOVED it so I will definitely have to try Sweet Rose Creamery…esp. since they have salted caramel! YUM. Thanks for the tip 🙂
